The Problem: Inefficient Field Documentation

Logging the progress of physical work (construction, cleaning, maintenance) often involves error-prone manual processes: taking photos, noting locations, and sharing them via Whatsapp or SMS, making organized reporting nearly impossible. This consumes valuable field staff time and can lead to inconsistencies.

WorkPics originated from the need for an extremely simple tool: Open -> Shoot -> Done. The goal was to minimize friction and cognitive load for users who need to document their work quickly, ensuring that information (photo, time, location) is captured and synced automatically.

My Process: Radical Simplification

1 — Zoning and Minimal Flow

The process began on paper, defining the most direct user flow possible. The philosophy was: fewer clicks, more automation. Different layouts were explored to find the most intuitive arrangement for the primary action: taking the photo. Geolocation and synchronization were designed to happen in the background, requiring no user intervention.

The resulting layouts included:

• A login screen, necessary to identify the user and their assigned job.
• The camera interface, which closely mimics any standard phone's camera app for easy adoption;
• The settings screen for language changes, reminders, help, T&Cs, and logging out.

2 — Prototyping in Figma

The zoning was translated into Figma, creating low-fidelity wireframes and then an interactive prototype. The design focused on a prominent camera button and a clean interface displaying only essential information. The flow was refined to ensure the minimum possible steps from opening the app to having the photo synced.

3 — Visual Identity and Logos

In parallel, a mini Brand Style Guide was developed, defining a clear, legible typeface (e.g., Helvetica or similar) and a functional color palette with good contrast for outdoor visibility. Two final logo proposals were explored, aiming to convey efficiency and connection (work + cloud/sync), along with a provisional logo/icon used during development for quick app representation.
